NATIONAL SECONDARY STUDENTS’ COUNCIL
REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ELECTIONS

Elections for National Secondary Students’ Council (NSSC) executive members for the academic year 2009-2010 are well underway, with voting already completed in four (4) of the NSSC’s six (6) Regions. So far the following students have been elected to their Regional Executives, which have the mandate for promoting youth advocacy and the active participation of students in matters affecting their interests:

Region One     -          

Chanise Henry (St. George’s College)
Sophia Bryan (Meadowbrook High)
Ruth-Ann Edwards (St. Hugh’s High)

Region Three   -     

Dhamar Palmer (Ocho Rios High)
Zalieka Stephenson (York Castle High)

Region Two    -  

Conroy Field (Titchfield High)
Chantol Thomas (Paul Bogle High)
Crystal Peterkin (Fair Prospect High)

Region Five     -     

Stacian Virtue (Bishop Gibson High)
Kasia Smith (Lewisville High)
Tamara Francis (Bishop Gibson High)

The remaining elections in Regions Four and Six will be hosted in the coming weeks.

Students seeking to offer representation on a National level are currently actively campaigning for votes. Presidential candidates, Andre Stephens (St. Catherine High) and Daren Miller (St. Jago High) recently participated in a debate, where they addressed a number of critical social issues.
